Your body endures more than you may think as you go about your daily life normally. The mind’s always exercising, you’re constantly walking to wherever you need to go, your arms are constantly holding things for you, and the back’s always supporting you. In turn, parts of your body ache and you feel like you’re going to shut down. Overworking your body doesn’t always yield aches though. However, when it’s not caused by overworking, it’s caused by something else. Aches can put an extreme damper on your day, especially toothaches. How do toothaches arise? More importantly, how do you get rid of them?
Remove Stuck Food Particles
One cause of toothache is food that’s caught in your gums. People who love steak, burgers, chicken, and pork are more susceptible to toothache because these type of foods commonly get trapped between the tooth and gum. If you like your meta and poultry and experience a toothache, then get to the bathroom immediately and open wide in the mirror. Stuck pieces of food may be what’s causing oral discomfort. Rinse with warm water first to “loosen” your mouth. Then, carefully floss in between the tooth that’s in pain and the adjacent tooth. Your tooth will still be in pain, even after removing all of the food that was stuck. Pain may go away the following day or before.
Salt Water
Not the kind that you accidentally taste while at the beach! If it turns out that stuck pieces of food isn’t the root of your toothache, then try holding in a mixture of 1 teaspoon of salt and 6 oz of warm water for 15 to 20 seconds. Repeat this method three times a day for as long as toothache persists.
Painkillers
You can use over-the-counter painkillers in conjunction with salt water to maximize relief. Try your hand at Advil, Tylenol, or Aspirin. Be sure to use these type of products in accordance with the labels on the box and product itself.
Call In The Big Guns
If toothache is still existant after trying all of these methods, then it’s time to call in the dentist. Make an appointment as soon as you can for the earliest date and time possible. The longer that you wait to do this, the more worse that your toothache can get.
Be sure that you’re brushing your teeth twice a day with toothpaste and dry-brushing in between meals. Not doing so can result in tooth decay and cavities, which can cause toothache.
